Win32app Build and extract tool: a tool to build or extract Intunewin
In this post I will show you an application I created allowing you to build an Intune win32 application (Intunewin) or extract content from an existing intunewin.
What's new ?
You can find my first post about the tool here.
In this new version I added an automatic download of the new version of IntunewinApputil.exe
If the tool detects a new version of the exe, it will be automatically downloaded.
Get the tool
Click on the GitHub picture below to get the tool.
You will find two ways to use the tool:
- EXE: an EXE to run the tool
- No EXE: use without EXE (see below how to use it)
False Trojan/Virus detection
If you use the EXE, you may have a Trojan alert, but don't worry.
In fact it's a false positive detection. Don't panic there is no virus, this is because of the generation of the EXE with PowerShell code.
There are a lot of issues with PS1 converted to EXE...
As a workaround I added a folder on GitHub called Install on desktop (in case of issue with EXE).
To use this method proceed as below:
1. Run the file Install_tool.ps1 with admin rights
2. A shortcut will be created on your desktop
How it works ?
To create the intunewin package I used the known solution from MS, see here.
To extract the content of an intunewin, I used the solution created by Olivier Kieselbach, see here.
How it looks like ?
The tool is divided in two parts:
- Build: Part to create the intunewin package
- Extract: Part to extract content from an intunewin
How to use it ?
Create an Intunewin package
Purpose: You will be able to create an intunewin for your application installation.
1. Run Intunewin Create and Extract (EXE or desktop shortcut)
2. Go to Build tab
3. Go to Package sources part
4. Click on Browse
5. Select the folder containing your application
6. Go to Application name,
7. Select the file to run to install the application
8. In File name, you can rename the intunewin after the creation
9. Go to Location part
10. Click on the Browse button
11. Select the folder where to save the intunewin package
12. Click on Build the intunewin package
See below the process in action
Extract intunewin package
Purpose: You will be able to extract content from an intunewin like with a zip or rar.
1. Run Intunewin Create and Extract (EXE or desktop shortcut)
2. Go to Extract tab
3. Go to the Select your intunewin part
4. Click on Browse
5. Select the intunewin file to extract
6. Go to the Extract folder part
7. Click on the Browse button
8. Select the folder where to extract the intunewin content
9. Click on Extract intunewin content
See below the process in action
What's next ?
In the next version I will add the possibility to upload the package in Intune.
